The Koi Pond Project!

June 2005

May 1, 2005:

Finally I have all the $&)(# ivy out! That took me 3 weeks of pain-staking pulling. And don't ask me what I had to do to get rid of this 60 pound roll! ha ha

Here is Bailey ready ready to start digging! Notice the huge roll of Ivy!

May 15, 2005:

Picked up 3 koi this weekend. 2 excellent quality koi from
Wakoola and 1 from the Atlanta Koi Club. I'm keeping them in their temporary home (the aquarium) until the pond is ready. Bailey & I love to feed them and watch them eat. Pictured here are Nick and Mandy or Nicky and Manny. The gold one (a Yamabuki Ogon) Govinda isn't shown here.

June 13, 2005:

Well, I decided after advice from an experienced koi pond builder
to move it to a different location in my yard. I think that it will
really make a nicer accent piece in the top left corner of my yard.
Construction started today! Here are 3 pictures of where it is going.
If you look very closely you can make out a light blue outline where
my contractor has outlined the pond in blue marking paint.

DAY 2

DAY 3 (Wednesday)

DAY 4 (Thursday)

DAY 5 (Friday)

As you can see, pond construction is complete! It took them 5 days to construct. Amazing! We are however still waiting for the electrician to come out and run the power so we can hook up the filter and pump. I cant wait to fill it up and see it work!

DAY 6 (Monday) ITS FINISHED! Filling it up!

After adding the Bog Plants

To the right is a close up of the Pitcher plants. These emit a scent that attracts insects and then traps them!

Wet Pets - the Koi Store

I had a really great visit to WETPETS. They had thousands of koi ranging from $35 to $6,000. The larger ones were very friendly and would like for us to "tickle" them under their chins. We also enjoyed feeding them by hand. They were so accustomed to being fed this way that even when we just approached a tank, the came swarming at us. If we would put our hand in the smaller tanks the koi would swim up into our hands!

Pictures are both of a beautiful Yamabuki Ogon worth about $2500.

My Koi

Here are some blurry pictures of my koi while they were still in my aquarium. They've been since moved to the big pond.

You can see my baby Yamabuki Ogon, Orenji Ogon aka "Tang" and my Doitsu Kin Ki Utsuri (pictured right) aka "Bumble".

On a recent trip to Wet Pets, I also bought a Doitsu Goshiki Chagoi, aka "Plumy" and a 3-step Gin Rin Kohaku aka "Nema" (because he has one red pectoral fin.)

The two below I got from Inland Koi. Havent named them yet!
